Bear Creek Educational Forest

From their Web site: Bear Creek Educational Forest is a 492-acre tract of Lake Talquin State Forest. Programs are free for any public or private school group, Scout Troop, daycare or any other youth organization. Each program option may include a lesson, game, and hands-on activity in the forest. An interpretive hike and souvenir craft to make and take home may also be included. The Bear Creek Tract also offers hiking and camping opportunities as well as the audio enhanced Living Forest trail where the trees tell their own stories.

Birdsong Nature Center

From their Web site: Nestled among the pines and hardwoods that spill across the south Georgia hills, Birdsong Nature Center is a gentle harbor of warmth and natural wonder, a serene sanctuary where one can explore and enjoy verdant lands and learn about the workings of our natural world. Birdsong is dedicated to preserving and maintaining its lands in a manner that is most beneficial to wildlife, and to fostering in the public a greater understanding and appreciation of nature. Meandering throughout Birdsong's lands are 12-miles of nature trail well suited for casual hiking. The varied woodland, wetland and old-field habitats support a diversity of wildlife, and offer an ideal setting for observing and enjoying the quiet, ongoing beauty found in our natural communities. We offer a wide variety of natural science programs, for young and old alike, lead by local scientists and expert volunteers.

Challenger Learning Center

From their Web site: The Center is the K-12 outreach facility of the Florida A&M University – Florida State University College of Engineering and uses aerospace as a theme to foster long-term interest in math, science and technology; create positive learning experiences; and motivate students to pursue careers in these fields. To accomplish this mission, the Challenger Learning Center features a state-of-the-art Space Mission Simulator and utilizes the immersiveness of an IMAX® theatre and a domed high-definition planetarium to create a holistic educational and entertaining experience.

The Flint RiverQuarium

Admission: From $4.50 to $14, depending on age and whether you are visiting the RiverQuarium, the theater or both.
From their Web site: The Flint RiverQuarium tells the fascinating story of the Flint River and the mysterious blue-hole springs that help create it. The 175,000 gallon, 22 foot deep, open-air RiverQuarium Blue Hole is filled with the fish, reptiles and plants found in the Flint River's ecosystem. The facility also features the Imagination Theater, a movie screen three stories tall and four stories wide. Playing riveting nature footage shot thousands of feet below the ocean surface or miles above the Earth.

Florida Caverns State Park

Admission: Park entrance: $5.00 per vehicle, limit 2-8 people. $4 for single occupant vehicle.
Cave tour fees: age 13 and up, $8.00; age 3 to 12, $5.00; age 2 and under free
From their Web site: This is one of the few state parks with dry (air filled) caves and is the only Florida state park to offer cave tours to the public. The cave has dazzling formations of limestone stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, flowstones, and draperies. Florida Caverns is also popular for camping, swimming, fishing, picnicking, canoeing, boating, hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding (The park does not rent horses.). Stables are available for equestrian campers. Guided cave tours are offered every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and is considered to be moderately strenuous. An audiovisual program, touring the cave and other natural areas of the park, is available in the visitor center.

Gulf Specimen Marine Lab

From their Web site: Giving people an appreciation for the diversity of life in the sea and a desire to protect it is Gulf Specimen's primary mission. We do so by using our touch tanks, graphic exhibits and conducting field trips to provide a unique "hands-on" experience enabling students to touch, smell, hear and even taste the odd and interesting creatures of the Gulf of Mexico, and develop an awareness and desire to protect the fragile life in the sea.

The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science

From their Web site: A visit to Mission San Luis transports you back in time. Your destination is a community where Apalachee Indians and newcomers from Spain live in close proximity drawn together by religion as well as military and economic purpose. Modern day visitors to Mission San Luis discover a re-created community where time stands still. There they meet the people of San Luis going about the tasks that sustained life centuries ago. They walk the plaza where the Apalachees played their traditional ball games. They visit the most important structure in the Apalachee village, the council house, and also stop at the home of the Spanish Deputy Governor. Visitors are welcomed at the church built under the supervision of Franciscans, and at the friary where they lived. Mission San Luis is a very special place where history comes to life.

National High Magnetic Field Laboratory

From their Web site: The only facility of its kind in the United States, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (less formally known as the Magnet Lab) is the largest and highest-powered magnet laboratory in the world, headquartered in a sprawling 330,000-square-foot complex near Florida State University in Tallahassee. The MagLab's educational arm, The Center for Integrating Research & Learning, conducts numerous educational programs both on and off site.

St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge

From their Web site: This unique refuge was established in 1931 to provide wintering habitat for migratory birds. It is one of the oldest refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System. It encompasses 68,000 acres spread out between Wakulla, Jefferson, and Taylor counties along the Gulf Coast of northwest Florida. The refuge includes coastal marshes, islands, tidal creeks and estuaries of seven north Florida rivers, and is home to a diverse community of plant and animal life. The refuge also has strong ties to a rich cultural past, and is home to the St. Marks Lighthouse, which was built in 1832 and is still in use today.

From their Web site: The Tallahassee Museum is one of the few museums in the nation combining a natural habitat zoo of indigenous wildlife, a collection of historical buildings and artifacts and an environmental science center on a beautiful 52 acre lake side setting.
