ArrowMagLab Alpha

Join us for an exciting "edventure"! MagLab Alpha launches students on a series of expeditions and explorations in search of a greater understanding of magnets and magnetism. Designed by teachers, scientists and students, the program uses a team metaphor to model how students work with each other and the teacher to investigate these concepts. The "Alpha Team" consists of six creatures based on real-life animals that rely on magnets or magnetism for migration, locating nesting sites, navigation and even disease prevention. Each "expedition," or activity, includes extensions (called "excursions") that link magnets and magnetism to math, literature, the arts and other disciplines.

This curriculum package includes:

  • A downloadable MagLab Alpha Guidebook (4.02 MB)
  • An interactive CD-ROM
  • A free "Alpha Pack" of manipulatives for 36 students

The guidebook consists of 20 "expeditions," five "explorations" and a total of 36 activities. Although each can be used independently, we recommend that students complete MagLab Alpha as a unit. The curriculum meets National and Sunshine State Standards.

Teachers can view and download the entire guidebook or any of these individual modules:
