CyclotronA cyclotron is a machine that accelerates charged particles to high energies.

The particles move in circular motion with consistent acceleration and a magnetic field forming around their trail. As the particles move faster, they careen outward. The end result is the creation of high-energy particles with a relatively low output of voltage. For physicists, the microscopic material presents vast opportunities for experiments with both research and practical applications.

The cyclotron is actually the baby brother of a far bigger machine, a particle accelerator. But while a particle accelerator (sometimes called an atom smasher) can be miles long, a cyclotron can be small enough to slip inside your pocket.
