National High Magnetic Field Laboratory Personnel
Educational Background:Marcelo Jaime graduated from Instituto Balseiro, Bariloche, Argentina, with a Ph.D degree in Physics in 1994, supported by a doctoral fellowship from CONICET, Argentina. He spent two and half years as a postdoctoral research associate at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) working with Prof. Myron Salamon in the thermal, electric, and magnetic properties of colossal magnetoresistance compounds. Marcelo joined Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1997, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, supported by the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory In House Research Program to develop calorimetric techniques for the NHMFL 60 Tesla long pulse magnet. The development of the technique and the first specific heat measurement ever in pulsed magnetic fields up to 60 T earned Marcelo a joint LAAP Teamwork Award (w/advisor R. Movshovich) in 1999. In November 2000 Marcelo became a Technical Staff Member at the NHMFL Pulse Field Facility (LANL's MPA-NHMFL group), where he has developed techniques to measure thermal properties in very high magnetic fields, both pulsed and continuous, at low temperatures. In 2007 Marcelo received the James J. Christensen Memorial Award in recognition of Outstanding Contributions to the Innovative Development and use of Calorimetric Equipment, presented by Brigham Young University. Marcelo’s top 50 papers were cited more than 2500 times, as of Jan 2008.
Awards, Honors & Service: Los Alamos Women's Career Development Mentoring Award (2008) James J. Christensen Award for Innovations in Calorimetry by Brigham Young University at the 62nd Calorimetry Conference (2007) Los Alamos Team Award (2000)
