Gainesville, dominated by the University of Florida, is located in the central part of the state, about 70 miles (112 km) southwest of Jacksonville and some 115 miles (183 km) north of Orlando. It offers many cultural attractions and is surrounded by countryside popular with bicyclists, hikers, boaters and other outdoors enthusiasts. Average annual temperatures range from a high of 82º F (28º C) to a low of 56º F (13º C).

Details

UF is home to the MagLab's High B/T Facility and the Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Facility (AMRIS). Users of the High B/T Facility can stay in the Reitz Union Hotel on the UF campus for about $99 per night, when rooms are available. A car is not required to reach the lab or restaurants.
