The town of Los Alamos is located in northern New Mexico, about 100 miles (161 km) north of Albuquerque and 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Santa Fe. It is surrounded by the scenic Jemez Mountains, state and national parks, and quaint, historic towns. It attracts outdoors enthusiasts for the many recreational opportunities found there, including hiking, skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking and more. The average high and low winter temperature is 41º F and 20º F, respectively (5º C and -6º C); the average high and low summer temperature is 79º F and 54º F, respectively (26º C and 12º C).

Details

Visitors to the Mag Lab's Pulsed Field facilities at Los Alamos National Laboratory will find a variety of accommodations. Rooms cost $60 to $90 per day. A car is about $40 per day; whenever LANL reimbursement is expected, car rentals should be made through Hertz (about $50 per day). Low-cost housing is available for students.

Most distant visitors reach Los Alamos via the Albuquerque Airport.
